Welcome back to another week and another task in the strawflower quilt along! This week, we will assemble our blocks.
Assembling Blocks
The workload this week is light and oh, so satisfying. Every time I sew together another block, I am overjoyed with happiness. For each block, you should have the middle piece (square-in-a-square), your four star point blocks, and four corner background pieces. To assemble the block, lay out the pieces, and sew the first three in the top row, followed by sewing the middle row and the bottom row. Seams can get a bit bulky on this block. To avoid this, I press the seams on the middle row in toward the middle block and the seams on the top and bottom rows out toward the edge of the row. You can see how this looks on my block below.
Once you have all of the rows sewn, simply sew the rows together. If you press as I have suggested, the seams will nest very nicely. Nesting seams is a term that just means that where seams meet, they go opposite ways and are able to perfectly slide into place, or nest. After sewing the rows together, I prefer to press the seams out toward the edge.
